Casablanca

Morocco's modern side

Casablanca isn't a medina city to get lost in, but a metropolis of millions built from Art Deco facades, skyscrapers and a coastal motorway — Morocco's economic heart. Right on the Atlantic rises the Hassan II Mosque: at 210 metres, the tallest minaret in the world, partly built over the sea, so worshippers gaze out at the water during prayer. At night, a laser beam shines from its tip toward Mecca.
