Dakhla

The lagoon at the edge of the desert

On a narrow peninsula about 40 kilometres long, Dakhla sits between the open Atlantic and a calm lagoon — ideal conditions for kitesurfing, which have made the town one of North Africa's best-known spots. Right behind the dunes begins one of the emptiest coastal landscapes in Morocco; standing here, you have the Sahara at your back and the Atlantic ahead. Despite the kite camps, Dakhla remains more outpost than resort.
