Middle Atlas, on the Oum Er-Rbia

Khenifra

The red city of the Zaïane

Khenifra owes its nickname to the reddish clay walls of its old town, rising above the Oum Er-Rbia, Morocco's longest river. The town was a centre of Zaïane Berber resistance against French colonial rule and still takes pride in that history today — visible in the equestrian monument on the riverbank.
